Over Night Success

It has only taken a week for Pokémon Go’s creatures to pop up all around the planet – but their journey really began in 1996

If you are remotely active in any of the social networks, or have friends and you don’t live in north pole or south pole, I bet you must have heard of this supercool new game called ‘Pokémon Go.’ This game is taking the whole world by storm.I am sure you all are familiar with the Pokémon world – A Nintendo franchise launched in the 90’s. The world of trainers traveling the world to catch the monsters ‘Pokémon’. This classic fight between the trainers and the Pokémon’s was pretty popular and ran on many video games.

John Hanke, who is today the founder and CEO of Niantic Inc., began his journey to make Pokémon Go a reality when he created and sold his first online game in 1996 before starting a mapping company that would change the way people navigate with GPS forever. From there, with the help of Google and Nintendo, he would create one of the biggest mobile game phenomenons of 2016.

According to his recent Interview, that’s far from true! It rather took him 20 years to create what Pokémon Go is today.
In 1996, while he was still a student, Hanke created his first online game and sold it to 3DO to pursue something bigger. Four years later he linked Maps with aerial photography and launched ‘Keyhole’ that was later bought by Google, which we now commonly know as ‘Google Earth.’
Eventually, with the help of Google, he set up his gaming lab Niantec and then launched ‘Ingress’ which is another augmented reality game, which gained popularity though not as much as Pokémon Go.
Later on in 2014, Google and Pokémon franchise by Nintendo teamed up for an April Fool’s joke. That allowed people to find Pokémon in Google Map. It was a huge success. Though Hanke claims that’s when he got the inspiration to build Pokémon Go, many believe that was a conscious effort to test the acceptability of the game before fully making it.
Pokémon Go was designed mindfully by using all the Geo Data owned by Google and also from Ingress. Many real-time locations like Gyms and Pokéstops are locations those are user generated in Ingress.
I guess that’s what is leading to its popularity. In the early week just after the game was launched in USA, Australia, and New Zealand, Nintendo’s share raised by 12 million and as we see the game has much greater potential

If you’re still struggling to make heads or Ninetails of “Pokemon Go,” we’ve got you covered.
On this week’s “By The Numbers,” The Huffington Post’s weekly business and tech talk show streamed on Facebook Live, our staffers discuss three numbers that put the craze in perspective:

· $14 billion ― The approximate increase in Nintendo’s market value in the week since the game launched.

· $1.6 million ― The estimated amount of money the app makes every single day.

· 33.4 ― The number of minutes the average iOS user of the app spent playing “Pokemon Go” on Monday. That’s a lot! The average iOS user spent 22 minutes on Facebook and 18 minutes on Snapchat, in comparison.

The phenomenally popular smartphone game is the latest entry in the 20-year-oldPokemon franchise, but it’s a lot different than the Game Boy or card games you might be familiar with. Instead of controlling an on-screen character, most of your time in “Pokemon Go” is spent literally walking around the real, outside world and spotting cute monsters through your phone’s camera. When you see one, you toss a virtual “Poke ball” on your screen in an attempt to capture it and add it to your roster

Pokemon Go Dominating

It hasn't been a week since it was released but Pokémon GO has been dominating, set to surpass Twitter in daily active users on Android devices.

According to data published by Similar Web, Pokémon GO was already installed in 5.16 percent of all Android devices in the U.S. just after two days it was released. To put things into perspective, the mobile game is now installed on more Android devices in the country than Tinder.
And people aren't just installing Pokémon GO, they are actually using it, and by a lot!
Pokémon GO is already neck and neck with Twitter in terms of daily active users, as of July 7, so it's only a matter of time before the mobile game sees more daily action than the social networking site.
Data also put average usage time for the mobile game at 43 minutes and 23 seconds a day. That's higher than what Messenger, Snapchat, Instagram and WhatsApp normally get daily and may also be the reason why figures for engagement for the mobile game are unbelievably high. At more than 60 percent of users in the U.S. using Pokémon GO daily, it also means that about 3 percent of the entire Android population in the country is using the app every day.
Pokémon GO is only officially released in the U.S., Australia and Switzerland but it's not like the rest of the world can patiently wait for their turn so numerous users have turned to installing an APK from APKMirror, making the site's traffic jump from 600,000 on July 5 to more than 4 million by July 6. Where did APKMirror's top visitors come from? Brazil, India and Germany, aside from the U.S.
